Pittsburgh PA - Off Route Excursion

We headed to Pittsburgh for a short off Route 6 detour. We have tickets to tour Fallingwater on Sunday. Fallingwater is a private residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that is now open to the public. Here is a link to the website. Karen has wanted to go there for a very long time. While in Pittsburgh, Karen and Bob hope to see a baseball game, either the Pirates or more likely the Pitt Panthers.

It was a nice drive via I79 then I279 into Pittsburgh. The city has a bit of a skyline as you can see from this picture Karen snapped while driving through.

Bob wanted to see what the drive and parking situation was for the Pitt Panthers game in case we can go. He drove while I navigated. The process was pretty hairy. Pittsburg is very hilly so many of the streets go nearly straight up and down. Very stressful so we decided to pass on the game. The weather is very iffy for the Pirates game tonight plus it is an hour rail ride each way. Doubtful that we will go.

We went on toward the hotel but stopped somewhere close for lunch first as we are before checkin time. Lunch was OK. We found the Motel 6 and were able to get an early checkin. Karen picked this place because it is located somewhat near a rail park and ride we could use to get to the Pirates game.

Since we have time to spare, we decided to go to the Botanical Garden in Settlers Cabin Park. They are dog friendly so I get to go too. It is another hilly, winding road. Is every road in Pennsylvania like this?  We have to negotiate the tightest turn yet, practically a switchback as you can see on this map.

After parking as we walk to the entrance, there is a pen with sheep. I ask Karen to hold me up so I can see them better. They are all hairy like me.

We have a nice time walking the grounds. It is a great place to walk. I am free to walk around and don't have to be on a short lease. I meet several new friends, canine and human. Karen and I took this picture next to a dragon. It reminded her of the dragon point dragon. We got lost trying to find the exit. All of us are ready to be done. Karen and Bob finally figured out the way back to the entrance.

We found a quicker way home. Karen and Bob decide to stay in tonight. No Pirates game as it is cold and threatening rain. They ordered a pizza from Slice on Broadway. They were voted best pizza in Pittsburgh. They said it was good. I didn't get any. Story of my life.
