My masters decided they wanted a "real" breakfast vs what the hotel provided so we loaded up and we went to the Big Texan Steakhouse. Oh My! Even from the outside I could tell this was different than anywhere I had ever been. When my masters came out, I could tell it must have been very interesting. They talked about all they saw; cowhide patterned tablecloths, waitresses in full cowgirl dress, a big bear at the entrance, a Halloween themed shooting gallery, taxidermy set up as scenes high on the wall. They had these freaky pictures that changed from nice to ghoulish on the wall by the bathroom. There were little girls turned to vampires, women turned into corpses. They took a good picture of this man. My master almost jumped when she saw the first one change, imagine if you'd had a few drinks.
They are known for having a 72oz steak, which if you eat it, you get it free. You have to eat the steak and the fixings in an hour. They have a contest every year. The sam,e woman often wins. She finished in just over 4 minutes. How is that possible? They had her picture there and she is smiling! They each ordered a breakfast sandwich. They waitress said it comes with the egg, cheese, ham, bacon and sausage. Yes all three meats. They should have known something was up. Look at the plate they of food they got. There was no way to make it a true sandwich. It was more than a full breakfast and only $6. Definitely they best food deal of the trip. There was so much, they couldn't see it all. This is a place you shouldn't miss just for the experience.
We didn't get on the road until 11am. That was fine because it is only 3.5 hrs to our destination, Oklahoma City. On the way we see more wind farms. Evidently Texas has the most energy produced from wind of any state. It makes sense when I see the windmills they have used for decades to run pumps. The terrain is flat and used for cattle ranching. Texas troopers are out in force. We saw 3 people pulled over in less than 40 miles. We saw this water tower that looked like it was about to fall over in Groom Texas. It is the Britten water tower put there like that during the heyday of Route 66 as a marketing ploy by Ralph Britten. He had truck stop and restaurant and he wanted to draw in customers. Guess it worked according to this website.
The terrain changes to rolling hills and gullies as we near McLean, Texas.
We cross the state line into Oklahoma. It seems greener as soon as we cross. There are more trees and the grasses are green. The terrain is still rolling hills. My master speculates that the difference is due to the lower elevation. I think he is right. We don't see any irrigation equipment, the first time since we started seeing it in western Nebraska. As we approach Clinton, there are red hills and big vistas. We see more wind farms but none as big as the ones in Texas.
My master needs a bio stop, the map says there is a rest stop soon. As we get close, the sign says Picnic Area just like in Texas. Sure enough, no facilities. Bob tries several other places without luck until there is a gas station up the road a bit. All is well. We get to Oklahoma City. Our hotel is in the northeastern suburb of Edmund. The Corvette is very dirty. We find a self serve car wash and stop for some car love.
To get to the hotel, we pass Frontier City Amusement Park. This is not what I expected to see in town. We arrive at the hotel and check in. We have a nice big room with a couch. I like the couch since I can hang out there with my humans. There is a nice area for my walk. There are many dogs staying here. I even rode on the cart. My masters breakfast was so big, they only need a little bit for dinner. Bob has a granola bar and Karen has her leftover pork chunks. She said they were yummy even the second time around. The restaurant should bottle their green chili sauce. It is still warm for my evening walk now that we are out of the desert and closer to sea level. I work on my blog while my masters watch TV. We will sleep good tonight in this big bed.
